Last Saturday and Sunday (March 27 & 28), I volunteered at the Calgary Go Green Expo. My duties included check tickets, answer questions, hand out free totes and program guides, and hand out fresh cooked samplings (yumm!). The expo took place at the Stampede Round Up Center, It featured hundreds of exhibitors, all dedicated to providing information, products, and services that can help us to live a greener lifestyle! With everything from home and garden ideas, eco-friendly food and clothing, transportation options, organic food and cooking, to guest speakers and even a fashion show! Unfortunately, since I had to leave early to attend dance class, I missed the fashion show. The picture on the left is me handing out the eco-friendly, reuse-able shopping bags at the door. I heard from another volunteer, that these exact bags are for sale at Home Depot for $1.99! We've got so many of those donated by Home Depot -- 10 boxes, each box were stacked up to 1.5 m! By Sunday, we wanted to get rid of these bags, so we were handing out 2-3 bags to each guest. I'm sure that will encourage people to stop using plastic bags when shopping and use these beautiful green totes instead.
On Sunday, us volunteers got a free T-shirt. And guess what? The shirt was designed and made by Me to We Style! Siera actually designed a shirt last year, after being crowned as Miss Teen Canada -World 2009. Part of what is so unique about Me to We Style is that 50 percent of their profits go to the charity, Free The Children. The same chairty partner as the Miss Teen Canada World organization. Free The Children charity implements sustainable community development projects, including school building, alternative income, health care, clean water, and sanitation projects in the rural areas of Kenya, Sierra Leone, China, and Sri Lanka. Free The Children is the world's largest network of children helping children through education. The T-shirt we got, was 50% organic cotton and 50% recycled polyester, very eco-friendly, and feels so soft! I love Me to We Style clothes!
On Sunday Afternoon, I had a photoshoot with photographer Jeff McDonald, at Princes Island Park. The park is located near downtown Calgary and bow river. I'm so glad that my sash arrived on Friday, because I can use it for the shoot! Jeff was very professional and very nice. We had a lot of good shots through out the afternoon. Photos will be uploaded on my modeling album as soon as I receive the edited photos. Unfortunately, it was very windy on Sunday, and I had a huge headache today. =(
This week is a photoshoot week. Today I was at another photoshoot with photographer David Mckenzie. I cosplayed Tifa, from Final Fantasy. It was so much fun showing my martial arts skills in Tifa's costume! After that, we also did a Japanese kimono look and a maid look. These photos will be added with special effects that will closely resemble the characters from video game, manga, and anime. The edited photos will be used for the Calgary Comic Expo. When I was in Junior High, I loved watching anime, especially the boy-ish ones. I remember I would watch Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Naruto, and Detective Conan every week and try to keep up with the new episodes! Naruto and Detective Conan are still coming up with new episodes these days. Can you believe it? Detective Conan has been around for 13 years already, with almost 600 episodes!
Anyways, I hope you are enjoying my blog so far. Don't be afraid to leave some comments below! Comments are always good XD
